After being closed for the first time in about 50 years due to Covid-19 cases, the Apollo Market in Jalan Raja Uda has reopened.

Seberang Prai City Council councillor Tan Chee Teong said out of 209 stall operators at the market, only 91 resumed their business yesterday.“There are an additional 97 stalls under the Apollo Daily Wet Market association and although 85 of them are allowed to reopen, only 40 resume business,” he said.

Tan, who was present to hand out face shields to traders, said the market was shut down for a week after six positive Covid-19 cases linked to the market were detected on July 28.

“So far, we have recorded 15 positive cases and traders in close contact with them are required to remain closed for 10 more days. The association chairman Ong Peng Hooi said the closure had a big impact on the community as it was the first time the market was closed in about 50 years.Market-goers checking in using MySejahtera app before entering the Apollo morning market in Raja Uda, Butterworth.
