Stocks migrate higher as investors tune in Fed’s virtual Jackson Hole symposium

U.S. stocks opened in positive territory Friday, with investors awaiting a speech by Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.68% rose 70 poins, or 0.2%, to 35,823, while the S&P 500 SPX, +0.78% was up 0.3% at 4,483.

The Nasdaq Composite COMP, +0.95% was up 0.3% at 14,985. Investors will be listening to clues from Powell, who will virtually address the Kansas City Fed's annual Jackson Hole symposium at 10 a.m. Eastern, for clues on the timeline for the eventual tapering of the central bank's asset purchases.
