Fake Indigenous art sits for selling in shopping malls, gift stores, corner shops and online.

“Inauthentic products can mislead consumers, deprive Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists of income and disrespect cultures,” Productivity Commissioner and Yawuru man Romlie Mokak said. The Productivity Commission has recommended the installation of a new law which would strengthen protections around Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property. The Productivity Commission has launched an investigation into inauthentic First Nations arts and craft, and the impact imitation has on both artists and communities.

“Communities have limited legal avenues to protect their sacred stories and symbols from being used without permission and out of context,” said Commissioner Lisa Gropp.

NITV I find the concept utterly racist.

NITV I call higher, I reckon would be close to 90%

NITV I'm ignorant here. How is someone painting an Indigenous style artwork and using their own name, any different to me painting a Picasso style canvas and signing my name? Or a painting like Ken Done? If they're claiming to be Indigenous, that's wrong, but if not

NITV Another CON exposed , connected with so called Aboriginals it’s well known many who “Alleged they are Abos are not at all , wether u like it or not , YES it’s another labour FRAUD, that why URGENT watch be on labours ABO polices which effect the taxpayers

NITV Another report has found that 100% of Aboriginals and Torres Strait people have no connection with the benefits of colonisation they enjoy each day

NITV I did not see that coming...

NITV Why are they fake? So let me get this right, Aboriginal Australians can deem a certain style of painting is cultural and exclusive to them alone when that style of painting was taught to them in the 1970s by a white man called Geoffrey Bardon.
