Andy Haldane, the former chief economist at the Bank of England, has jumped into the controversy over the future of the HS2 high-speed rail link.

He is a leading adviser to the government on levelling up and says that scrapping HS2 will undermine the confidence of private investors.

In an exclusive interview with our Economics Correspondent Helia Ebrahimi, he said that we should be talking about HS3, 4, and 5 and not just HS2. Tomorrow he will release a report saying more investment like HS2 – outside London – could boost the economy by £100 billion a year.
