The 224,000 new jobs created in June represented a solid rebound from a somewhat lackluster May report.

. This number significantly topped economists’ estimates predicting only 163,500 new jobs. Economists and the consensus opinions of the press have been consistently wrong about the hot job market, believing it would cool down.

The hourly wage gains remained unchanged from last month at 3.1%, as workers seem to lack the leverage to gain higher pay from their employers.
