Government announces €8.8m investment in solar power plant for water treatment in Gaza

The Government has announced it is investing €8.8 million into construction of a solar power plant to treat contaminated water in Gaza.

Ongoing electricity shortages in Gaza also mean that residents only have access to electricity for around 12 hours a day and big installations use diesel fuel to power generators. Some of the land used for the solar plant lies within a military buffer zone imposed by Israel and this project will be the first time that land in the area has been made available for infrastructure.Tanaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney made the announcement today.

"Gaza has a critical energy shortage, which means that it is particularly difficult to power water treatment facilities.

Government announces €1 billion investment in national rail networkThe investment in civil engineering programmes will take place from 2020 to 2024. Can it really be called a national rail network if doesn't service the whole nation? Donegal The dublin to wexford line needs immediate attention! Single line / huge risk of erosion / developing commuter need Just to be clear, “investment” would suggest something new, there is nothing new in this, this lump sum is just making up for a lack of PSO funding in the rail network over the last decade. This is mostly for renewal/maintenance/updating, nothing new per-se. fakenews
