Matthew Wilder's 1983 hit 'Break My Stride' is climbing charts again almost four decades later. Here's how TikTok is having a big impact on the music industry.

New York During the 1980's, artist Matthew Wilder composed a song in about 30 minutes. That song, "Break My Stride," has been featured in films and commercials over the years and turned him into a one-hit wonder.

Now, nearly four decades later, the song is gaining relevance for listeners who weren't even born when it was first released, thanks to its popularity on an unexpected platform: TikTok. On the short-form video app, popular with Generation Z, users typically share 15-second clips of themselves dancing, lip-syncing or doing comedy skits, most often set to music.

I had not heard that song in ages until I saw this tweet:

Probably heard me doing carkaraoke to it, while stuck in traffic, going to Staten Island, on the NJturnpike, in the early AM.

This is exactly like the strange dream I had last night...

Wow that amazing I will upload this shit again hhh😅😏🤔‼

oh ok

Some of us still have our original records.

Great song. Question is: is Matthew Wilder making money off this, or just the record companies?

TikTok? I thought it used to be Vines. I really am too old for this crap.

So kids are discovering actual music?
