A top pandemic expert warns it's way too soon to end the coronavirus lockdowns: 'COVID would spread widely, rapidly, terribly'

Dr. Tom Inglesby, Director of the Bloomberg School of Public Health at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, speaks during a briefing on the developments of the novel coronavirus on Capitol Hill on March 6, 2020 in Washington, DC.Tom Inglesby, a director of health security at Johns Hopkins University, says it's far too early to start pulling back social distancing efforts without risking millions of US lives.

Before a change of course, the US needs to come up with more gear and reduce the overall caseload, Inglesby said. US President Donald Trump is calling for the economy to "get open," and others are pushing for a resumption of economic activity as well. "Anyone advising the end of social distancing now, needs to fully understand what the country will look like if we do that," Tom Inglesby, director of the Center for Health Security at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, said in a thread on"COVID would spread widely, rapidly, terribly, could kill potentially millions" in the next year "with huge social and economic impact across the country," he continued.
