G/O Media fired a queer employee of color who wore crop tops, shorts, and heels to work, violating a brand-new dress code that others say they routinely violated without being punished

from the National Women's Law Center finds that Black girls are disproportionately targeted for violating school dress codes in Washington, DC.prohibits employers from requiring dress codes "that impose different requirements for individuals based on sex or gender." Though companies can impose a gender-neutral dress code, enforcing it against individuals that don't conform to sex stereotypes is a form of discrimination under the NYCHRL.

Jeffreys estimated he was spoken with about the dress code "at least 10 times." No other employee who spoke with Business Insider said they had been spoken with about the dress code more than once. One former staff member who was not in the editorial department said Jeffreys might have been disproportionately reprimanded for breaking the dress code because he sat on a different floor than most of the writing staff, and the rest of the business staff didn't break the dress code as much as editorial did.

"She was unable to recite this very basic term which at this point is kind of common knowledge," said one current staff member. "That certainly felt insensitive."Jeffreys said G/O Media moved offices after the Great Hill Partners takeover, and management moved his desk from being near Deadspin writers to be closer to his direct boss, and therefore closer to the human-resources department.

Business insider lie also.

Pay walls make baby Jesus cry.

“Violating a brand new dress code that others say they routinely violated without being punished” This does not make sense, and also seems he provoked a situation on himself knowingly.

I loved working with Victor. He was a ray of sunshine, a creative, funny and kind person who was great at his job. The management of G/O Media are the kind of liars who don't even care if you believe them.

Fuck G/O media

Fired via e-mail? That should tell you all you need to know about G/O Media and this situation.

This is the boss you fight when you get to the final of the oppression Olympics.

lotta folks here showing that as adults most of their decisionmaking is still motivated by 'ew cooties'

Good, clearly a lunatic and probably spends 'his' time shrieking about pretend microaggressions and not doing any work.

Who cares? Dress like an adult regardless of your deviancies.

This dude is white

Person of color? The guy is clearly white.

Judging by these comments, it looks like homophobia is still alive and well 🤬

provocation

This is like the holy grail of oppression Olympians.

Holy shit. How many buzz words can you fit into an article.

Well yeah nobody wants to see that

Seriously- how many folks will be happy to see that sitting across the desk for a job interview. C’mon. Tell the truth. What a tough spot = don’t want to hire but scared it will scream discrimination if you don’t. Probably a good day to just claim feeling ill & go home early.
