Companies should be paying more for the pollution they cause, says Mark Carney, the United Nations special envoy on climate action and finance.

"They've been set far too low — single digits on average globally, well short of the estimated $80 to $100 a ton needed by the end of this decade to keep us on track to net zero," he said during a virtual event organized by the INSEAD Hoffmann Global Institute for Business and Society on Tuesday.carbon taxes should be $75 a ton by 2030.

The catastrophic impacts of climate change will largely fall on future generations, and the current generation … has few direct incentives to solve it." one of the toughest things for governments to do in order to … ensure that the longer term benefits to society are spread more immediately to those who are more impacted," he said.

Yes

Does this include Chinese companies? Of course not. So we pay for their pollution and they keep on polluting. What a great economic strategy 🙄!

Companies wouldn’t pay for it. Their customers, employees, and stockholders would.

Everything obvious is revelatory once these guys and girls are out of power. Why didn’t he say this when he was the head of the Bank of England?

Maybe start with China

NO!!! Its companies should stop and will be stopped from polluting. They should noy get a free ticket to pollute just because they paid a fine...!!

He means pay more to the government, which is the biggest polluter. Fiat currency causes the need for constant growth and ever increasing pollution.

And where do companies get their money? Clueless! They pass all charges on to the customer smart guys!

Pay exactly who? The government? Just another way to steal our money.

With all due respect, the over regulation is why brexit happened… turning the whole world into France does not sound appealing. merci.

Tell that to China or don’t say it at all.

Who will be benefited from those tax? Government?

Never trust anyone with the designation of 'envoy'.

This dude needs to go screw himself

I’m sure you meant “ Countries” should pay more. Right. As in China, right Chloe?

So China and India keep doing what they are doing . Give me a break .

Politicians should pay a high price for destroying forests.

Americans should stop buying all the landfill products made in China
