There’s never been a better time to found a company, according to one of the most important figures in the Australian start-up community.The Sydney Morning Heraldnew podcast Futurepreneur to talk about the mechanics behind founding a company, and what his firm Blackbird Ventures looks for when investing.

Futurepreneur, which examines the journey and challenges faced by startup founders building the future of the Australian economy, launches on Wednesday. Two episodes will run each week over the course of the next month. For Mr Crocker, the most important thing in entrepreneurship is authenticity. Blackbird Ventures has invested over $1 billion into the likes of Canva, CultureAmp and Eucalyptus. Before he became a managing partner there he founded and sold two successful businesses himself, Sessions and We Are Hunted.

“In the best cases, it’s just an expression of what someone would do anyway. And it just so happens that doing it in the form of a company is the best way to bring other people into the journey and scale beyond just you and your co-founders,” he said on the podcast.
