A digital learning company that created the federal government's $27 million early language program is facing 48 child employment charges.Victoria's wages watchdog alleges Millipede employed children under 15 without complying with a code of practice or obtaining permits

The inspectorate alleges Millipede failed to obtain mandatory child employment permits when it employed children under 15 years of age to work and failed to comply with a mandatory code of practice for children working in the entertainment industry. The ABC understands the children, from 7-18 years old, were used for voiceovers and 30-minute focus group sessions, some of which relates to a government early language program .

The Millipede company website said the federal government would fund the design and development of new ELLA apps for students in year 1 and year 2.A spokesman for acting federal education minister Stuart Robert declined to answer questions about government funding for Millipede.
