Yolanda Davis' going-out-of-business sale has been under way for a while, and what's left is at least half off — much has been marked down significantly more. (And, if you ask for a better price, she'll likely take another 10 percent off.)

"We'd go on buying trips to West Texas and we bought western things and primitives. We didn’t go to auctions or estate sales," Yolanda said."Everyone knew we went on trips and brought everything back -- this was stuff that wasn’t already in Houston. That’s how we got our following." She has enjoyed making it a gathering place for the neighborhood at 11th Street and Studemont. Yolanda used to take care of the small garden maintained by Dacapo's Pastry Cafe on the same block, and on Saturdays, the cafe would give her 4 dozen cookies, which she sat out with drinks and coffee for anyone who stopped by.
