Local economy rebounding

It’s hoped production will begin this fall at the former Nestle plant in Trenton.

Tillsonburg Custom Foods, a frozen food products company, bought the plant recently after the Nestle plant was closed in June. Quinte News has learned that along with Tillsonburg’s various frozen food entrees, the plant will also include longtime local company Rachel’s Tarts. Mayor Jim Harrison says he’s impressed by the plant’s new owners who hope business is good enough to allow for an expansion in the future.“Great guys coming in here with a positive attitude, they’re going to make it work. They also are looking at employees and hiring and they’ve met with some and offered them jobs and a decent wage package to start with and yes they love Rachel’s Tarts.”

Hiring of employees, including former Nestle workers, is underway. Harrison praised Nestle for leaving the plant in very condition for the new owners.
