Addressing the media in Soweto, Phalatse gave an update on the work being done by the City, in response to the flooding and the cost of the damage to infrastructure.
. 16 people lost their lives, many of whom during a baptism ceremony in the Jukskei River. A three-month old baby believed to have been part of this ceremony is yet to be found. Phalatse says she’s written to the National and Provincial governments to declare a Local State of Disaster. Nomsa Sibiya — who lives with four children including one who suffers from epilepsy — says every time it rains heavily, water from a nearby dam floods their homes.
