The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is embarking on a new rejuvenation campaign, which began this year with the completion of a new parking lot, and is poised to continue early next year with a massive overhaul of the entryway to the zoo.
According to the zoo’s President and CEO, Jeff Ettling, bid and construction documents for the project will be ready by the end of March, and construction should be ready to begin in June of next year. This first phase will cost roughly $52 million, and Ettling says nearly 85% of the funding has already been raised and the project will take roughly two years to complete.
Ettling says the main focuses for 2023 will be the entry and manatee projects, as well as reinvestigating the master plan that was designed in 2017.
