After clawing back plans to sell the former adult activity center in East Cleveland to a controversial owner and then rebidding the project, Cuyahoga County has selected a new owner.

CLEVELAND, Ohio –

“It’s the kind of project that brings not just community and economic development but housing to the neighborhood,” Stephens said. “More affordable housing a quality condition is needed in East Cleveland and, for that matter, on the East side of Cleveland as a whole.” The second phase of the project will include constructing two apartment buildings around the property within the next two to three years, she told the committee.

D.P.1 owner Malek Abboud told council that he planned to turn the property into a 12,000 square foot market, a credit union, a police substation and free community meeting space. Abboud’s proposal was also supported by East Cleveland Mayor Brandon King.
