Recent strong winds have caused the longest delay in years at the Cape Town harbour, leaving exports such as fruit stuck for more than four days and forcing desperate exporters to rush to alternative ports.

This was by far the longest delay seen during the past three deciduous fruit export seasons, according to Antoinette van Heerden, logistical affairs manager of the Fresh Produce Exporters Forum .Get 14 days free to read all our investigative and in-depth journalism.
