The almond industry wants state governments to ease beehive movement restrictions to ensure supply for pollination, but SA producers would prefer demand for beehives be met by honey producers within the state.

abc.net.au/news/almond-pollination-bee-shortage-amid-varroa-mite-outbreak/102118318The almond industry is calling for state governments to drop border restrictions on beehives from New South Wales for pollination season, but apiarists are worried the risk of varroa mite is too high.

"Everyone's putting it down to two key factors: a very poor pollination season due to the weather; and the availability [of beehives] in some areas," he said. "We're in the lap of the gods in regard to four state governments working together collaboratively to come up with a harmonised plan around the movements," he said.
