“Is there a possibility at some point it may reopen? It’s a possibility, but I can’t promise anything,' said owner Doug Shaw.

Needing a new location and enduring decreased sales as a result of the coronavirus pandemic contributed to the decision, said Doug Shaw, who owns the Columbus Road business with Jason Andro. The meadery’s last day in its Duck Island neighborhood location is Saturday, May 20.

“We have a very narrow window in terms of what we need in our space and a location and budget,” Shaw said. “Our sales never came back after Covid. That kind of narrowed our window of what we can do. It’s been up and down and bumpy the last few years.” The difficulty is rooted in needing a location to accommodate the making of mead, which is created by fermenting honey.
