A huge fire has ripped through shipping containers and pallets at an industrial estate in Accrington.
Liam Wilson, group manager for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, said the 'severe developed fire' involved approximately 20 shipping containers and an 'unknown large number of pallets'. Residents have been advised to keep their windows and doors shut after it resulted in large plumes of smoke being released into the air.The fire resulted in the complete closure of Blackburn Road in Clayton-le-Moors between Whalley Road and Dunkenhalgh Way.
In a statement, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 02:57am on 9 June 2023, ten fire engines, one aerial ladder platform, and the drone team were called to a commercial property fire on Blackburn Road, Accrington. Firefighters are using one main jet, one aerial ladder platform, a stinger, one breathing apparatus, and a water bowser to extinguish the fire.
"There are road closures in place on Blackburn Road, Clayton-le-Moors between Whalley Road and Dunkenhalgh Way. It is anticipated that this road closure will be in place for a number of hours."
