ESKOM UPDATES | Stage 3 load shedding to kick in at 16:00

Eskom has placed its acting head of security Karen Pillay on precautionary suspension.

"Thereafter, Stage 3 load shedding will be implemented from 16:00 until midnight. This will be repeated daily until further notice," it said.Stage 4 load shedding will be implemented from 16:00 until midnight on Sunday, Eskom announced.On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday load shedding will be reduced to Stage 3 from 16:00 until midnight.

Load shedding will be suspended from midnight to 16:00 every day until further notice, with Stage 3 implemented over the evening peak, due to"further improvement on the available generation capacity". Breakdowns are currently at 16 056MW of generating capacity while the generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 2 407MW.

Eskom announced that load shedding will be suspended until 16:00 on Monday - before Stage 4 starts at 16:00 until 05:00 on Tuesday. Over the past 24 hours, a generating unit each at Kendal, Kriel, Matla and two generating units at Lethabo power stations were returned to service. Cahora Bassa was returned to service during the same period after a failure on Friday afternoon.

Thereafter, Stage 4 load shedding will be implemented from 05:00 until 16:00, followed by Stage 5 from 16:00 until 05:00 on Tuesday. This pattern will continue for the rest of the week until further notice. Breakdowns account for 17 392 MW of capacity, while another 2 940MW are out of service for maintenance.
