Later this week, investors will eye the Fed’s preferred gauge of inflation—the personal-consumption expenditures price index—and the August employment report.The S&P 500, Dow industrials and Nasdaq Composite all advanced. The Dow was up 293 points.

All of the S&P 500's sectors were in the green. Its tech-focused sectors, along with the Nasdaq Composite, were standout gainers; the Nasdaq rose 1.7% . Tesla, the S&P 500's best performer, rose more than 7%.
