The World Health Organisation and the Africa Centre for Disease Control have recently declared Mpox as a public health emergency of international concern and a public health emergency of continental security respectively. The recent 44th SADC Summit in Zimbabwe extended solidarity and support to member states affected by Mpox and directed the secretariat to convene the meeting.
