Six months after the fire outbreak at the Katsina main market where traders suffered total loss of N921,138,500.00; and where 605 shops and 59 ‘attachments’ were burnt down completely, an appeal was made on Saturday to the state government to give permission to affected traders to personally rebuild their burnt shops and stalls.

The IHRM representative in Nigeria, Salisu Musa, who addressed the press conference, said, “International Human Rights Movement made an investigation and found out that on a daily basis, the marketers are incurring losses of over N50m as a result of not being given permission to reconstruct their shops due to the Katsina state government’s plan to reduce congestion in the market.”

It will be recalled that there was a fire inferno at the Katsina Central market on Monday, March, 2 2021, resulting in the loss of goods and items valued at N 921,138,500.00. Twenty one traders were also identified to have had their shops either burgled or looted during the fire incident.
