KOTA KINABALU: About 600 construction workers who staged a protest against a South Korean company have received their pay, says Sabah Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Phoong Jin Zhe.

He said Shinsung E&G and the investor company, SK Nexilis, which operates in the Kota Kinabalu Industrial park , have resolved the arrears issue but did not state the actual amount paid out.ALSO READ:Phoong said an interim investigation report from the Sabah Manpower Department, based on interviews with workers found that the group had not received their salaries since March.

"This means that it was not four months' salary arrears as claimed on social media," said Phoong, who is currently in China on an official visit. It was earlier reported that the contractor owed a total of RM3.8mil to 600 workers in outstanding salaries. Phoong hoped that with the settlement of the salaries, all parties would be able to enjoy the coming Hari Raya celebrations. On April 15, workers upset over delayed wages, allegedly attacked and injured three foreign management staff from the South Korean company.Shinsung E&G is a subcontractor for Hyundai Engineering, which is building a copper foil factory for SK Nexilis.
