The Federal Reserve didn't deliver any big surprises on Wednesday, leaving interest rates unchanged. At the post-meeting press conference, Fed Chair Jerome Powell said that central bank officials are focused on whether or not it needs to raise rates more, not about when rates will eventually start coming down. Officials aren't quite convinced that they have done enough to cool inflation.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite led with a 1.6% gain, while the S&P 500 rose 1.1%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up 0.7%, or 221 points. Helping boost the Nasdaq Composite was chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices, which was the index's top performer. It gained 10% after reporting healthy revenue growth in its PC segment. While AMD is counting on a strong market for AI-enabled PCs, Heard's Dan Gallagher explains why that isn't a sure thing.
