Review follows tribunal finding that bank’s decision-making was “flawed” in assessment of director nominee

Former ECB banking watchdog chairman Andrea Enrian has been hired by the Central Bank of Ireland to review its fitness and probity process. Photograph: Bloomberg banking supervisory chairman, Andrea Enria, to lead a review of its vetting regime for key finance positions, after an appeals body made a highly critical judgment about its refusal to approve a board nominee for a fund.

Mr Enria, an Italian economist, has served as chairman of the ECB’s Single Supervisory Board, which is in charge of supervision of euro-zone banks, between 2019 and the end of last year. He was previously chair of the European Banking Authority.

The case that came before Ifsat was a rare one where an individual pushed back against the regulator.
