Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner says a housing shortage is holding Brisbane back, after a major consultancy report listed the city’s strengths and future prospects.

A lack of accessible and affordable housing is holding back a rapidly booming Brisbane, Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said on Thursday as he launched a “prospectus” of the city’s great selling points.

A Deloitte Access Economics report has listed Brisbane’s strengths. Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner says housing is not one of them.The population of south-east Queensland was expected to grow to six million over that time, with two-thirds of overseas migrants born in the Asia-Pacific region. At the launch of Brisbane’s first-ever State of the City report : Howard Smith Wharves chief executive Luke Fraser, Deputy Mayor Krista Adams, Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner and Brisbane Economic Development Association chief executive Anthony Ryan.“But we need to free up the system so that more privately owned housing can be built because that makes up 96 per cent of all housing built in Australia.”
