The National Professional Teachers’ Organisation of South Africa in KwaZulu-Natal says engagements are ongoing with Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube, in finding alternatives to the budget cuts announced by National Treasury for the department.
Government has agreed to a 7.5% wage increase for teachers and other public servants for 2023/2024, but did not increase provincial budgets accordingly.Moodley says the union will not entertain any conversation about cutting of posts. She says, “Naptosa is of the view that National Treasury does not give education the budget it deserves because there is a constant struggle in all the provinces to make ends meet and deliver quality education.” Any cookies that may not be particularly necessary for the website to function and is used specifically to collect user personal data via analytics, ads, other embedded contents are termed as non-necessary cookies.
