The City of Tshwane’s Water and Sanitation Department has temporarily shut down the Temba Water Treatment Plant , which supplies
The shutdown follows water quality challenges caused by last week’s power supply interruption at the Pyramid Substation due to a fire. City spokesperson Lindela Mashigo explains that the power disruption affected the Rooiwal Wastewater Treatment Plant, which discharges untreated effluent into the Apies River, feeding the Leeukraal Dam.
“Since the incident, the Temba Water Treatment Plant had to reduce pumping capacity, which is now unsustainable,” Mashigo said. The city will provide water tankers to residents until the situation stabilises.”“Extension unit is a small place, so you know one truck can accommodate how many houses,” laments one resident, adding “We don’t have water to flush toilets, and yet they say the water was delivered and some will come tomorrow, but some of us will be at work tomorrow.
