MANILA - Manila has waived the payment of rent in markets in the capital city until Luzon's enhanced community quarantine due to the coronavirus has been lifted, the City Council said in a resolution, Thursday.
This will "help mitigate the impact of the declaration of enhanced community quarantine, which will greatly affect their liquidity," according to the resolution passed on March 19, 2020. President Rodrigo Duterte earlier forced public transportation, malls, parlors, and other establishments not selling food and medicine to cease operations for a month to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 .
