Vodafone Hutchison Australia’s $15 billion merger with TPG Telecom is on track despite the disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic, with the telco’s chief executive Inaki Berroeta saying the combined business is aiming to lure business customers away from rivals Telstra and Optus.
Vodafone Australia CEO Inaki Berroeta says the way is clear now for the merger to be completed in July.“We're probably going to be the first merger transaction that happens in a remote manner,” he said. “A lot of companies will be interested in the new world around how do you give more mobile devices to your employees or how do you allow employees with their own devices to connect to the companies,” he said.
“We are a privileged sector because on one side, our services are used more than ever and that means that we are not in a situation where other businesses are really suffering the consequences of coronavirus,” he said. “We haven't had any reduction of headcount in the company. I don't think that that's something that we are now considering. And then, in terms of the merger, it's actually a merger of two businesses that do quite different things.
zoesam93 When TPG_Telecom's was with Optus network its reach was good. Since marrying with VodafoneAU's appalling 4G networks some yrs ago, TPG mobile is in the pits. It is appalling even in suburban Sydney & Melbourne. So much for synergy in their mergers.
