How 5G and edge computing could transform nearly every industry from healthcare to manufacturing IBM ad

There are potential benefits for nearly any industry, from healthcare to transportation to manufacturing.

"Every time you move a piece of data, you increase the risk of it being stolen," Rob High, chief technology officer of IBM Edge Computing, says. Security centers monitoring video feeds from hundreds of locations could receive real-time alerts on suspicious activity so they may be able to notify authorities sooner.

In the future, 5G could power a host of autonomous vehicles, smart cities, virtual-reality devices, and more.
