Tourism groups have blasted the idea of waiting until September for Queensland to relax its border controls when coronavirus case numbers are falling

Tourism groups have pushed back against the idea of waiting until September for Queensland to relax its border controls with southern states, warning the damage to their $150 billion industry could not be justified when coronavirus case numbers were falling.

"If one or two states were to hold out, then they will be answerable to their tourism industry and will ultimately need to provide additional support to that industry," Senator Birmingham said. The Queensland government's stated roadmap on restrictions suggests the border controls could be lifted in July "subject to further planning and review" but Ms Palaszczuk warned on Monday of a later timeframe.

Queensland Tourism Industry Council chief Daniel Gschwind said the sector was "taken by surprise" by Ms Palaszczuk's remarks and wanted the state to return to its earlier plan to open the borders in July.

Because for Annastacia, it was never about flattening the curve.

Prevention is always better than a cure, and if this helps stop a second wave, or more like a ripple in Australia's case, then keep them closed.

Who cares about a few outbreaks who cares about a few deaths...ask Americans they are suffering what we could have on a smaller scale (100000 deaths) auspol ScottyFomMarketing abc730 BreakfastNews sunrise

Tourism has had a boom over the last two decades........stuff them. Other people are suffering as well.

What an advanced nation does .

Insanity .

What a pathetic leader . So much for one country and the ANZAC spirit . Such weak leaders .

...people have become so very afraid, so very fragile that they have become happy to abandon the concept of the responsibility for ones freedom and for ones life...what a joke...

The boarders should be reopened in all states. The Qld premier's suggestion of a Sept reopening is madness. If that happens the toursim industry will be decimated.

Why only Queensland? You forgot to mention ALL the other States with boarders closed. Report accurately please your bias stinks.

RIP QLD tourism !
