Thirty-five-year old Bose Abiodun, who has four children, spent 25 months in Ilesha Correctional Centre after her husband, Femi – under trial for manslaughter – whom she stood surety for, jumped bail. Abiodun, who had her fourth child in prison, shares her experience with BOLA BAMIGBOLAI am a native of Ijebu-Jesa in the Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State. I am a tailor and was also doing petty trading alongside before I was put in prison.
The baby was named Oyinkansola by the leaders of a church that usually visited the prison. She is my fourth child. My first child will be 11 years old this month .My name was not on the list of inmates to be released on the day I was released. It happened that someone came to look for me and I was told that the Chief Justice’s panel wanted to meet me. I was elated when I saw the lawyer, Julie Olorunyomi, because she was involved in my matter.
On getting home, I realised my world had shattered. When I left my three boys with my mother, she was hale and hearty. But when I was released, I learnt she died while I was in prison. I was told she died on December 30, 2018. She and my elder brother used to come together to see me in jail but at some point, she stopped coming. When I asked my brother why she stopped coming, he said she was fine.
After I returned home, I realised I had nothing anymore; the little things I was trading in were gone. My kids and I are with my aged father now. I am helpless and need the support of everyone. My parents had sold their belongings before my mother died.I don’t think I can ever forgive him for what he did to me. Though before the case in 2014, he did what he could do within his capacity but after he returned from prison, he became irresponsible.
I met with the legal aid council on October 9, 2018 when I was taken to court and she empathised with my daughter and promised to take over my case. I am from Ijebu-Jesa and my husband is from Ekiti State. His parents reside in Ido. They didn’t come to check on me while I was in prison and they were aware I was there. I called them and my brother also spoke to them in person, yet they were not moved. All rights reserved.
I think we need to get something straight, it was unlawful for the woman to suffer for the offence of her husband, relations should not suffer for a person's misbehavior, Our constitution must be clear on this,
So sad 😥😢

Heart touch story. It shall be well with young lady.
Nawaooo
We are tested with all sorts
A pathetic story
Forgiveness is the first step for healing even though you don't have to marry that kind of man anymore. The weakness of our security structure has just been exposed again. That guy is in Nigeria, jumped bail and could not be rearrested. Useless country
Standing surety for someone is RISKY O . So her in-laws didn't come to check her in prison despite the fact that she was jailed because of her husband. Her inlaw cannot claim not to know the whereabouts of their two sons . May thunder locate the husband & his elder brother.
May we not marry wrongly!
Maybe she made the surety for the husband on trust and he failed her. If she knows the whereabout of the man, she wouldn't choose to give birth in a prison. Loosing business and mum as well. Someone should look into this again...
It is well with you, forgive your husband, it’s important because of your children.
They jail her because husband jumped bail! God is watching!
This is really sad.. is there anything we could do to help her start her life again?
How do one help this lady without any contact details ?
I don't understand this
WHEN ONE POPULAR IGBO MAN JUMPED BAIL AND RAN TO ISRAEL,THE SENATOR WHO SIGNED HIS BAIL WASN'T ARRESTED. MY NIGERIA!
It’s a crime to be poor in Nigeria. God help poor people in Nigeria. This is just one of the many cases...don’t know about you but I’m TIRED of this shit
It can only happen in a zoo
Some men eh ..... May God help us in the country ..
Hmmmm, typical definition of Men are scum. This is horrible.
Pls click on the link and read the story! You would feel for this woman.
It's high time people are held accountable for their actions. Both d judge and the procecutor should be held accountable except they held back d truth in this matter why should a wife be punished for her husband jumping bail
Heartbreaking indeed. I pray she gets all the help she needs
So painful
There's no point arresting this lady, except she was a surety for her husband. Aside from that, it is wrong, unlawful and inhumane to imprison a woman for her husband's offense. If this is on-going, she has to be released from prison at this very moment. PoliceNG. segalink
Some husbands cannot make heaven
MBuhari NGRPresident ProfOsinbajo This thing has to stopped in Nigeria, punishing innocent persons is a crime against humanity, please do something, stop punishing innocent soul, you've traveled to advance countries, they don't treats their citizens this way.. Shame on Nigeria
And that man is your husband? Allowed his pregnant wife to be held in custody by the police to the extent of delivering in prison?
This country ehee whats the crime of this lady?the husband mayb be bastard dont care abt her and u added more pains to her sorry mam
Was she the one that commit an offence Was she the one that stand in for her husband in court? Is this constitutional Why put a pregnant woman in jail, do we actually have a constitution or we create a constitution on our own base on d situation on ground.
This is very sad. What kind of a man will expose his family to this terrible ordeal. W Even when the wife stood in for him when he needed her. What a weakling with prick.
Na wawooooooo!
And you have a politician in this same country who spent just five months in a comfortable prison for a 12-year sentence and was receiving his pension and other payment as a senator in prison. Worthless country
The injustice of the highest order, please retweet 🙏🙏🙏
That's injustice, except she stood surety for her hubby.
To bad..
