LONDON - Britain can both remain a popular destination for foreign investment and stand up for its values, its business minister said on Tuesday after China warned that a dispute over tech firm Huawei could lead to many"consequences".
Tensions have mounted between Britain and China after London joined Washington in criticising Beijing's new national security law for the former British colony of Hong Kong and signalled it could reverse a decision to use Huawei kit in its 5G network. Britain is in the process of carving out a new foreign policy as it prepares to fully leave the European Union at the end of the year.
British officials say a review of the implications of the sanctions, which are aimed at cutting off Huawei's access to US chipmakers, was all but completed and ministers would make a decision soon.
