KOTA KINABALU: The fragrance of the roses in the foothills of Mount Kinabalu has caught the “nose” of Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

He is urging the local rose farmers to consider developing the fragrance industry instead of just selling rose stalks and the plant.

“They must consider developing the fragrance and perfume industry,” he told reporters on Saturday after launching the Mesilou Sustainable Food Production Park in Kundasang, about 80km from here. Shafie said that the state government under its Agricultural Development Blueprint for 2021-2030 was working to develop the agricultural sector, whereby farmers are encouraged to go downstream in developing value-added products.

“Our youths must not rely on white-collar jobs alone, and they should consider going into the agricultural sector,” he said.
