Luxury Italian automaker Lamborghini's 2020 Huracan sports car.Federal prosecutors are accusing a 29-year-old small business owner in Miami of spending some of the nearly $4 million in coronavirus relief aid he received from the government on a six-figure sports car, expensive jewelry and stays at luxury resorts.

Federal officials arrested the man, David T. Hines, on Monday, charging him in Miami Federal Court with one count of bank fraud, one count of making false statements to a financial institution and one count of engaging in transactions in unlawful proceeds, the Justice Department said in aAfter Hines obtained approval for three Paycheck Protection Program applications and received more than $3.

In fact, for weeks after receiving the millions of dollars in PPP aid, "Hines did not make payroll payments that he claimed on his loan applications," the Justice Department says in its press release. Instead, in addition to buying the six-figure Lamborghini that was registered jointly in Hines' name and in the name of one of his companies, Hines allegedly spent tens of thousands of dollars at luxury retailers and luxury resorts in Miami Beach.

Prior to receiving the government PPP funds, one of Hines' bank accounts had a balance of just 30 cents, while another that later received nearly $800,000 of his PPP funds previously had a negative balance of more than $31,300, according to the government's complaint. After receiving the PPP money, Hines' financial records show that he made two May payments of $15,000 each to a person listed as "Mom," according to officials. Other payments in the months of May and June include $4,622.40 spent at Saks Fifth Avenue and $8,530 to the luxury jewelry company Graff.

MakeIt Spending it on stock buybacks is the same thing, but all corporations are doing it without consequences. Government chooses who can steal and who does not

MakeIt $3.9 million. He has a good taste in cars. I am confused with this headline. Are we supposed to think that he did not spend his money wisely or something? Lamborghini is an awesome car. 👍👍

MakeIt Smart guy.

MakeIt People are using PPP money to load up on Nasdaq stocks and making more money from the stock boom than reopening their business. LOL

MakeIt At least he didn't spend it on hookers and blow.

MakeIt Multiply that by 100 and you get an idea of what a ridiculous system we have.

MakeIt Oh shit, you got a Lamborghini! “Yea, the government bought for me!” Great story to tell the grand kids about the time this pandemic hit and people were losing everything and I got a Lamborghini! Well played sir.

A Florida Man Reportedly Used Covid-19 Small Business Loans to Buy $318,497 Lamborghini, Luxury GoodsIt is increasingly rare for the U.S. to come together over a common enemy (like, a global pandemic couldn’t even do that), but allow me to offer up David Tyler Hines. The 29-year-old Florida man applied for $13.5 million in taxpayer funds from the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP)—which sought to help small businesses keep employees on their payroll during coronavirus closures—and was approved for nearly $4 million in three forgivable, low-interest PPP loans despite the fact that he either did not actually have any employees to retain or paid them pennies compared to what he filed for, BuzzFeed reports. Not only that, but he has been charged with bank fraud after allegedly using the money on luxury goods for himself. Gotta love a huckster who uses covid-19 as an opportunity to go shopping!\n
