Branching into online grocery could be a smart move for DoorDash, but it'll have to compete with other players in the fast-growing sector

SOPA Images / Getty Images will be fulfilled in-store by employees from Swiss staffing agency Adecco, and then placed on designated shelves where DoorDash drivers will be able to pick them up and deliver. The food delivery company claims its delivery coverage will reach 75 million customers in these regions.

Branching into online grocery could be a smart move for DoorDash, but it'll have to compete with other players in the fast-growing sector. We more than half of US adults to adopt online grocery by the end of 2021 as consumers look for more convenient ways to purchase groceries while also adhering to social distancing measures amid the pandemic.

Offering a grocery delivery service could help DoorDash increase its current market share in the delivery industry, which it has been working toward in the last few months: DoorDash recently its online convenience store, DashMart, while also partnering with convenience stores to expand its delivery offerings.

The grocery delivery market is already crowded with established players like Instacart and Amazon Fresh, but more direct DoorDash competitors, like
