Nationals Senator Matt Canavan says renewable energy is a “dud investment,” propped up on the back of pensioners and poorer people who can’t afford their power bills. Mr Canavan is calling upon the government to rip up the $2 billion energy deal which encourages investment in low emission sources to replace aging coal fired power stations.
“Since the passing of this legislation, we’ve seen electricity companies pull out of building gas fired stations, coal fired stations pull out of upgrading their power plant because they can see, hang on, all the money is going to renewable energy and there’ll be no space for reliable, affordable power in the system." Mr Canavan said the idea renewable energy was cheaper than gas or coal was “a myth".
