The China trade dispute has spread to Australia's lamb industry, impacting two Victorian meatworks. In July, China used COVID-19 outbreaks at two major lamb processing facilities in Melbourne as justification to stop accepting meat from those plants.
Despite no cases of COVID-19 being linked to those facilities for months, Beijing is still refusing to accept exports from those facilities. Agriculture Minister David Littleproud released a recent statement noting: "We continue to raise the recommencement of exports from those facilities with China through our agriculture counsellors and DFAT officials in Beijing".
