Talks on the agreement launched in 2014, but were stuck for years as the EU complained that China was failing to make good on promises to lift curbs on EU investment, despite a pledge to open up the world’s second largest economy.
“The deal might already be done this week,” the official said, adding that the agreement, which could be struck during a video-conference on Wednesday, would be translated into legal texts over several months. The negotiations have been conducted by the European Commission, which handles all external trade issues for the 27-nation bloc.

Eric87477935 Almost all the miserable comments are American.
United States of Europe getting into bed with a totalitarian ruthless expansionist Communist state. Good luck with that.
EU officials are special kind of stupid
We need to disengage from China until they release Canadian political prisoners, reinstate Hong Kong free legislature, stop sending minorities to concentration camps and forced labour camps, stop attacking democracy and free speech globally
Let U.S. envy the deal!
Let US envy the deal!:)
Muito em breve veremos europeus comendo morcego, gafanhotos e aranha no lugar dos chineses!👹🇨🇳🦠👺 Que triste fim, do vulgo 1º mundo!? Kkkkk
Done over the wishes of the people of the EU. Deeply troubling doing deals with a fascist state. Those responsible will be held responsible at the ballot box.
ukinchina So what will you do to protest to the EU who are about to sign a significant deal with China? Is this the right message the West should be sending to the CCP? That all of these human rights abuses, Tibet/HK/XinJiang/ChristiansTaiwan - all these matter less than money.
Why would you engage in any agreement with a nation that practices hostage taking when they don’t like what you do? $$$$
so Europe is betraying the United States which tries to stand up to the CCP by doing an investment deal on the back of her efforts ?
