Executives from Google and Facebook are fronting a Senate committee hearing to discuss the Morrison government's controversial plans for a mandatory media bargaining code. Mr Patrick has criticised US government advocacy for American industry saying this type of action could be considered “improper” if the government failed to “declare what they are doing”.
Mr Patrick said, “their advocacy centre allows them to initiate all sorts of contact and advocacy from the US government’s department of state and a whole range of other different agencies”. Responding to Mr Rex’s line of questioning Facebook's Vice President of Public Policy Simon Milner admitted Facebook had been in contact with the US government over the media code.
HOW ABOUT AN ACTUAL MEDIA CODE? a code that ensures all 'News' Companies are Honest and don't spread lies and distort the truth! - Wouldn't that be something?
Rex ... If you are that worried about US government and big tech. Suggest reading about the US Cloud Act. It gives US authorities access to all the Aussie business and government data residing on cloud services like AWS, Azure, Google and Oracle clouds etc Senator_Patrick
