"With a clever combination of product design and the strong fibre blend, that's what makes it really possible to not break under pressure." "We have a good understanding already of what the bottle will go through as we put it into the real world. But there is a certain point where you just can't design yourself out of this at a desk, right?
"It's going to be a bio-based barrier, that's really something minimal, that keeps that food safe, that keeps the product safe at the same time," Mr Michelsen said.

Its like putting lettice on a McDonalds burger.
I owe you an apology to ever doubt your sincerity and professionalism. It’s was just like a dream to me when I received my first payment. After my second payment it became a reality now after several payments it has become a way of life. SamuelEddy_
Whilst at the same time every shop, workplace, restaurant, pub, entertainment venue and the rest erect as much plastic as they possibly can in the name of covid. Where are the environmentalists when you need them?
Hopefully, the new bottle will be made from waste materials, much like what’s inside.
Still waiting on 10DowningStreet and michaelgove to implement a plastic bottle charge. plasticpollution

So it not totally paper at all as it has a thin plastic core in it....🤔🤔🤔
What's wrong with glass? I'm guessing it's not as profitable?

Where’s the paper coming from? More trees lost?
Or they could stop using bottles and return to just cans which are much more in demand for recycling
CocaCola still producing health destroying sugar drinks now claiming paper bottle is okay but we know the forests are being destroyed to product the paper
There is already packaging materials made from biodegradable Potato starch. Maybe they can make edible bottles..
Only two generations too late
We just need universal plastic recycling plans that isn't just based on up front profit.
Plastic bottles for every drink will be harmful, better every manufacturer should eliminate plastic
Cancel this unhealthy drink that has cost lots of peoples lives.

BBCScotlandNews How about a reusable & sustainable alternative. Glass bottle. Might even get refundable deposit?
BBCScotlandNews Its odd, we can send people to another planet, do human head transplants etc but havent come with a viable alternative to a plastic bottle yet!
Ah, the old papier box water botte thingies.

Then all we need to do is make the oil industry pay for the clean up of the oceans.... the hundreds of millions spent on lobbying over the years to promote the use should come back to bite them on the arse!😎
Excellent now all they need to do is work on what they put in it
About bloody time!
At least the effort is being made.
Every company should be pursuing this.
Glass bottles!! Helps to consume less and much more easier to recycle.
Yea because the paper straws have been a huge success 🙄😂
Hemp?
Once the internet disappears and all the books printed on acid-based paper the past 100 years decay, nothing will be left of our civilization except the highway system, skyscrapers, and billions of discarded water bottles.
That’s all well and good but can it store all the Covid?

Joshua was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia at 3-month-old. He's now 11-month-old & urgently needs a stem cell transplant after eight chemo cycles to beat leukemia. If you can, please donate or share; it would be a ray of hope. Please retweet!
What will the paper bottle be lined with ?
just go back to glass n cans n save the trees
I got excited then read the article and it contains a thin plastic layer. Kind of pointless
If it’s anything like the McD’s straws, then don’t bother.
Stick to cans? Or glass bottles.
It's a start, at least. Good to see larger corporations beginning to move away from plastics, even if they're extremely small baby steps.
That wopuld be a brilliant breakthrough, nice to see the big boys trying to improve on the terrible amount of plastic in circulaltion
I always knew one day Coca-Cola would save the planet
