Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Leo Varadkar will have a series of meetings in Belfast and Newry.
Sinn Féin's leader in Northern Ireland and Deputy First Minister Michelle O’Neill had to withdraw from scheduled talks today after contracting Covid-19, so Mr Varadkar will instead meet the party’s Stormont Finance Minister Conor Murphy. Mr Varadkar will also meet SDLP leader Colum Eastwood, Alliance Party leader Naomi Long and Ulster Unionist leader Doug Beattie. The ongoing dispute over the Northern Ireland Protocol, Covid recovery plans and the British government’s controversial plan to end prosecutions for Troubles killings will also be on the agenda.
Mr Varadkar will have a number of meetings with business representatives, including InterTrade Ireland, which helps businesses on both sides of the border. I have contracted Covid-19. I am thankful to have had two doses of the vaccine. I'll remain in self-isolation, and hope to return to my public duties next week. Executive Office Minister Declan Kearney, will take forward Departmental business in the meantime.
