ANALYSIS: For Xi Jinping, Taiwan is unfinished business – but attacking it is not strategic

Taiwan was occupied by Japan during the Sino-Japanese war in 1895 and not relinquished until after World War II. As the Peterson Institute for International Economics has pointed out, Taiwan is a "lingering symbol of China's victimhood".

The language has changed over time and there have been moments where it has reached flashpoint — most recently in 1996, when China carried out missile tests toward Taiwan causing panic. The US marshalled its forces in the Taiwan Strait in what was the biggest display of American military might since the Vietnam War.Xi judges that China's moment is coming and that the US today is a diminished power.

But seeds of suspicion and resentment were sown. China had to acquiesce to American military power. Chinese pride was hurt and it has since accelerated its military build up.

Taiwan island occupied by Republic of China is part of China. It is about sovereignty to reunify.

The reason that Australia and US doesn't recognize Taiwan as a country, is because this is result of WW2 order. The reason that They support Taiwan is because using it as a tool to supress China and selling weapons. That is it.

Lol.

Stan, we're not going to war with China. Plus, we do not support a govt. who talks any war in near future. How about a govt. who commits to climate change?

是历史的必然。

Taiwan is a part of China. This the truth which US controlled brainwashing propaganda union never tells.
