SINGAPORE: Plans for an upcoming solar project in Australia that can supply up to 15 per cent of Singapore’s electricity needs are gathering pace, with a global expert team assembled to deliver the multi-gigawatt scale project.
In a media release on Wednesday , Surbana Jurong said SMEC, which is one of its member companies, will be part of the team assembled by Sun Cable. It will deliver engineering consulting services for the solar generation systems and grid connection interfaces in Australia. They will help to drive the future of renewable energy in Australia and the Indo-Pacific, the release said.Singapore sets solar energy target for 2030 that would provide enough power for 350,000 homes
The project is expected to begin construction in late 2023, with the first supply of electricity to Darwin in 2026, and Singapore the following year. Full commercial operations are expected by the end of 2028.

Singapore power provider Best Electricity announces exit from marketSingapore energy provider Best Electricity Supply said on its website on Tuesday that it was exiting the retail electricity market, making it the fourth firm to do so in a week. The firm said in a note to customers that 'unexpected volatile conditions in the energy market have made it extremely difficult' for the firm, which entered Singapore's retail electricity market in 2015. 'While not a requirement on our part, we will present our customers with an ex-gratia payment, which will be included in their final bill with us, as a token of our appreciation of their support,' Best Electricity said.
