B Large mid town store closes after 70 yearsDean Carter started working in his family variety store on Sixth Street in uptown Harrisburg when he was a kid back in the 1960s.
“This is Harrisburg history,” Carter said on Friday, inside the small store where CDs, tapes and music accessories were displayed on green shelving. Eight people are moving out of apartments Carter owns at 1522 and 1524 N. Sixth St. The building at 1526 N. Sixth St. has been vacant for years.Carter said a variety of reasons led to his decision to close. He thought at some point he would have to remodel the store in order to keep up with the new development in the area around the store, something he thought would be difficult for him to do.
