Cryptocurrencies were lower early Monday morning as the Russian invasion of Ukraine intensified.

Bitcoin was trading around $38,335, down 2.09%, while rivals Ethereum and Dogecoin were trading at approximately $2,540 and 12 cents , respectively, Coindesk reported.

Late last week, Bitcoin was trading above $41,000 per coin until a three-day winning streak was snapped Friday.The U.S. Treasury Department late last week warned cryptocurrency companies about their cybersecurity controls.Treasury warned that Russia could wage retaliatory cyberattacks in response to Western sanctions, a person familiar with the situation told Reuters.Governments have warned for weeks that Russia or its allies could carry out cyberattacks in retribution for sanctions.
